Bob
Orlando certainly knows what he is talking about. Through his
books, videos, seminars, and classes, he teaches effective
self-defense.
Bob is a long-time student of Dutch-Indonesian Master Willem
de Thouars, and currently teaches in Colorado. He has studied
a variety of martial arts since he started training while on
active duty from 1961 to 1964. These include; Chinese kenpo-karate,
kung fu, aikido, iaido, arnis de mano, and eskrima. However,
what has impacted him the most are the years he has spent
studying Chinese kuntao and Indonesian pentjak silat under
Master Willem de Thouars.
Bob Orlando has a small school in Denver, CO and what he
teaches has an emphasis on practical, no-nonsense
self-defense. The empty-hand instruction consists
primarily of Chinese and Indonesian boxing (Chinese kuntao and
Indonesian pentjak silat) combined with Chinese kenpo and
kung-fu and elements from Filipino martial arts. Each
art uniquely contributes to the system that is taught.
Bob explores the underlying principles that make techniques
work, and in so doing provides clarity to self-defense
applications. If you can't make it to Bob's school in Denver,
you can learn from him at one of his seminars or through his
books and videos. I recommend anything by him highly. - Alain
