"Success is neither magical nor mysterious.  Success is the natural consequence of consistently applying basic fundamentals." Jim Rohn

Welcome to the Sniping & Combat Shooting Area!

The picture at the left was taken at a training site in South Korea in 1988 when Alain was attending the 2nd Infantry Division Scout Sniper School.  The school was headquartered at Camp Casey. (During the training exercise Alain was carrying an M14 rather than his M21 Sniper rifle.

On the first day, 36 soldiers, who were sent by their respected companies, competed for the maximum of 14 slots for the school.  The 36 fired M16s for the qualifying test and 13 of them were accepted into the school after shooting expert in front of the Sniper Cadre.

Of the 13 soldiers admitted to that class, three graduated as snipers, six graduated as advanced marksmen and four dropped or flunked out.  The advanced marksmen passed the shooting phase of the course, but failed one of the other graded sessions.  These sessions included a written test, PT Test, Stalking, Graded Patrols, and a graded field exercise.  To graduate as a sniper you had to pass every session as well as the shooting of course.  To pass the shooting phase, the sniper had to engage targets at 300, 400, 500, and 600 meters.  The 300 meter targets were steel quarter man silhouettes, or head and shoulders.  The targets at 400, 500, and 600 meters were half man silhouettes, in other words from the waist up.  Only after a sniper had passed shooting at these did he practice on the 800 and 1000 meter targets.

Even though shooting was extremely important, the other phases were equally important.  As one instructor used to say, "You can teach any piece of @*$% to shoot, but it takes field craft and everything else to be a sniper."

Of the three that graduated as Sniper in Alain's class, Alain graduated 2nd, just missing the honor graduate spot to a fellow soldier.  Alain then went back and worked special duty as an instructor at that same school for several cycles before getting out of the Army.

On these pages, Alain will share some information and resources regarding sniping and combat shooting.

Alain will also address how sniper training has helped him in other parts of his life.  One of the book and program ideas Alain is developing is Sniper Strategies to Success.  The same things that make an excellent sniper can also help a person achieve in other areas.  It is Alain's desire to help others tap into their own specialties by utilizing the same strategies of the military's elite soldiers, especially snipers.
