Lock On: Hapkido Joint Locks and Principles

With Alain Burrese

Take Your Martial Art Skills to a Higher Level with this Dynamic Seminar!

Alain Burrese's dynamic Hapkido seminars will take your martial skills to a higher level.  Besides learning numerous techniques and their variations, you will learn how joint locks fit into the four responses to an attack: escapes, strikes, locks, and throws.  Alain's grouping of similar locks made his Hapkido Hoshinsul video stand out as an instructional video a student can learn from.  In his seminars, he takes the same approach.  You will learn the mechanics of the joint you are manipulating, correct body motion so that you use your strength against your opponent's weaknesses, and how to perform the locks from a variety of attacks.  If doesn't matter if you are new to locks, or an experienced martial artist with years of joint locking, you will benefit from this seminar.  Learn new locks, learn variations, learn to teach better, learn to apply locks in realistic situations, and much more!

Besides making sure everyone leaves with more knowledge to take them to a higher level with their training, Alain also focuses on safety and having a good time.  Training should be enjoyable, and so should learning.  It should also be done safely so you can continue to train for years to come.  Be assured that when Alain comes to your event, he will stress safety, fun and learning.  Everyone will leave having had a great time with enough knowledge to keep them busy until the next time.

Arm Bars

After class one night, a beginning student of Alain's came up and said, "That arm bar you teach works.  I used it while bouncing last Saturday."  Alain knows they work, because he has used them as well.  In his seminars, Alain teaches how to use arm bars in a variety of situations.  It doesn't matter how someone grabs you, you'll be able to use an arm bar on him after this seminar.  You will also learn how to initiation the lock, so you don't have to wait for him to attack first, and you will also learn how to use them after getting out of the way of a punching attack too.

Wrist Locks

Alain Burrese teaches a variety of wrist locks in his seminars, teaching the proper angles and mechanics of the wrist so that students learn to manipulate the wrist to cause pain, take people to the ground, control and escort people, or to break the wrist if a dire situation calls for such measures.

Shoulder Locks

Shoulder locks fall into several varieties, with the most common being the "chicken wing" and figure four variations.  Alain Burrese teaches a variety of locks that exploit the shoulder that can be used for take downs, disarms and escorting.

This lock starts standing up, and with one step and a pivot, your opponent is on the ground.  Alain has used this same lock to escort individuals from concerts while working security.

Finger Locks

Finger Locks can be extremely painful, but they don't do extreme damage to your opponent.  For escaping some holds such as a full nelson, they can be the easiest way for a smaller person to escape the hold.

In Alain's seminars, you will learn a variety of finger locks and how you can use them in self-defense situations.

Combining Locks and Lock Flow Drills

Combining locks and lock flow drills are a great way to gain a better understanding of the principles behind the locks and train to recognize openings where a lock can be applied.  Alain teaches some basic lock combinations and flow drills that will assist you in gaining a better mastery over joint locking.

Finishing locks are also included.

Pressure Points

Alain also likes to include some pressure point work into his seminars.  You will learn basic pressure points and how they can assist you in different situations.

And More...

Alain will work with the seminar host to ensure the areas of interest are covered as the host wants.  He can supplement various self-defense principles from his Stay Safe and Attack Back programs as well.  Alain wants each and every one of his programs to be a win-win situation, so he will work with you to ensure a great event.
