Video Review by Alain Burrese
Indonesian martial arts are known for their destructive legwork. In the four part series, The Fighting Footwork of Kuntao and Silat: A Complete Guide to the Tactical Legwork of Kuntao, Silat, and Kuntao-Silat, Bob Orlando explains the critical elements of Kuntao, Silat, and Kuntao-Silat legwork, and teaches the langkahs (lower-body training drills) of his system and how to apply them with the three fighting styles.
Volume One teaches the foundation principles and the first two langkahs, while Volume Two teaches langkahs three and four. Once these are mastered, Volume Three teaches the more difficult langkahs five and six, which combine the earlier four langkahs by teaching the viewer to become comfortable transitioning from the open to twist stance.
Each of the six langkahs are taught with three variations, one each for Kuntao, Silat, and Kuntao-Silat applications. Volume Three ends with a summary of all six langkahs and a review. Volume Four teaches various drills such as the Shell Drill and Rocky Drill that include strengthening and conditioning of the legs with fighting applications.
