One for the good guys!

From the Rapid City Journal on line version:

Police: Septuagenarian sends would-be robber running to girlfriend's house

By Journal staff Saturday, March 14, 2009

Armed only with an ice scraper, a 71-year-old Rapid City man chased off a would-be robber who pointed two knives at him early Friday morning, police say.

Talon LaClaire, 20, picked the wrong septuagenarian when, police say, he approached a 71-year-old man scraping off his windshield at about 6 a.m. in the 800 block of LeBlanc Street.

Ignoring LaClaire's very, large "Rambo-style" knife and a small paring knife, the victim used his ice scraper to fend off LaClaire, according to Rapid City Police Department Sgt. Pete Ragnone

"He's a real neighborhood hero," Ragnone said of the courageous senior citizen. "He would not be victimized."

Apparently frustrated by the resistance he encountered, LaClaire retreated into the nearby home of his girlfriend.

Police officers entered the home and arrested the suspect without incident.

LaClaire is in the Pennington County Jail facing charges of attempted first- degree robbery and aggravated assault/domestic violence for the incident.

The unidentified victim was not injured in the altercation, according to a news release.

It's always good to see people standing up for themselves and refusing to be victims. That's the Attack Back attitude. Obviously, awareness and avoidance of altercations and violence is the best choice, but Never, Never, Never just be a victim.
