Patton quote

I've always respected General George S. Patton and believe him to be one of America's greatest military leaders. Here is a quote that applies to many areas:

"Never tell people how to do things. Tell them what to do and they will surprise you with their ingenuity." George S. Patton

Stay Flexible

Here is a little advice from Ross Perot's book My Life & The Principles for Success:

"Probably the most important advice I can give you is to remember that life is not orderly. In many cases, life is not logical. Business and life do not follow the neat lines of an organization chart. Both business and life are far more like a cobweb. As you commit yourself to a business career, remain flexible, realizing that the more you learn about a business, the keener your insight will become about what you really want to do."

If you don't remain flexible, you will break. It is simple as that. You have to be able to roll with the punches. I remember the advice of one of my drill sergeants during basic training. "You have to be able to roll left, roll right, or low crawl up the middle."

Identify and Commit

Have you taken the time to identify the most important areas in your life? Have you committed to continually focus on, measure and improve in both your personal and professional life?

If you haven't - why not?

If you haven't identified the most important areas in your life, and you haven't committed yourself to continually focus on, measure and improve in those important areas of both your personal and professional life, how do you know what to do each day?

Are you making "to do" lists? Are you doing tons of things each day? Of course you are! It seems we are all busier now than ever. But are the things you are doing, the things that are keeping you busy, the things on your "to do" list the activities that will really make a difference in your life? Are they the things that provide you the most fulfillment? If they are - great! If not, why? Maybe you are spending time on things that are not really the most important areas. But if you have not identified the most important areas, how do you know? Maybe you just have that nagging feeling that there should be more, that you are not doing what you are meant to do. Maybe you are so stressed because you don't have time for the really important stuff.

The first step is to identify what is important to you. While doing this, you also want to create balance in your life. Many people have these major areas of their lives: Physical/Health, Family, Finances, Work/Career, Spiritual, and Emotional. Are any of these areas being neglected?

Take a moment right now and identify what is important to you for your life. Think of the above categories as you do this so you can be sure your life is in balance. Then commit to doing something regarding what you determined important. After you have identifed and commited - DO IT!
