Toot Your Own Horn
During last night's finale of The Apprentice, Donald Trump mentioned taking credit for what you do, and tooting your own horn. This is something Trump has done very well, and it has paid off for him. It is reported that 98 percent of Americans surveyed know who Donald Trump is.
According to an article Donald Trump wrote for the Inside Trump Tower e-newsletter, "Having an ego and acknowledging it is a healthy choice. Our ego is the center of our consciousness and gives us a sense of purpose." I agree with Trump, we need to have a bit of an ego and must be comfortable with ourselves and our own approval. We should not be afraid to toot our own horn once in a while when we do something worth tooting about.
The key is to toot your own horn carefully and professionally. You want to let others know about your success, but do it in a way that is not just bragging, boasting, or obnoxious. You want to craft a thoughtful and effective message to share information about you, your business, and profession in a way that makes people want to do business with you.
So go ahead and toot your own horn once in a while. Let others know the things you are making happen and how they will benefit from doing business with you.
